R.E.M. - Strange Currencies

I don't know why you're mean to me
When I call on the telephone
And I don't know what you mean to me
But I want to turn you on, turn you up, figure you out, I want to take you on

These words, "You will be mine"
These words, "You will be mine" all the time

The fool might be my middle name
But I'd be foolish not to say
I'm going to make whatever it takes,
Ring you up, call you down, sign your name, secret love,
Make it rhyme, take you in, and make you mine

These words, "You will be mine"
These words, "You will be mine" all the time, oh

I tripped and fell. Did I fall?
What I want to feel, I want to feel it now

You know with love come strange currencies
And here is my appeal:

I need a chance, a second chance, a third chance, a fourth chance,
A word, a signal, a nod, a little breath
Just to fool myself, to catch myself, to make it real, real

These words, "You will be mine"
These words, "You will be mine" all the time, oh

These words, "You will be mine"
These words, they haunt me, hunt me down, catch in my throat, make me pray,
Say, love's confined, oh

A blue nucleon power surge
of diabolical nonsense,
the catalyst for warm feelings.

And you can sell
the merchants what
their daughters would profit,
but they'll never take
you for the payout.

Have I forgotten to meet someone?

I had found a pond
where the fishes were
lilac and pink.
I jumped in
and the pond was made
of poison.

Somewhat still growing up in a lowly Secondary School setting filled with mongrels and pigeons, a term was coined, though it's origins remain a mystery. It's meaning was pretty straightforward.

It was a time of young love, of adolescence running wild, raging hormones you know the familiar story... Every teenager was trying to fall in love and find a partner so they could go to school together and scribble each others names on their textbook.

But that isn't even why this story is being told, you see, where I grew up, if we were interested in a particular girl and if we declared our intentions early, that girl would therefore be off limits. "Off limits" in namesake only, a girl, on the open playing field, will forever be, whether ethical or not, be subjected to the...

I hope everyone is clear up till this point. A Slide is considered underhanded, but if declared, is still somewhat admirable as it becomes more of a competition between 2 men, a war.

But Sliding, like how it is applied in a football match, also has it's vileness, in the form of a...

This is where you Slide, as the name implies, from behind, from the shadows, from a mile away, wet or dry grass, you come sliding in, denying all accusations that YOU ARE Sliding in for the girl no no no not like that, but sssssssssssssaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh JUST SLIDE ONLY. Ok this one is sinister and often leads to 2 rival gangs fighting each other during recess or after school.

So growing up, everybody's probably had to deal with a Sliding Tackle or 2 right? Doesn't matter... We found adequate ways to deal with it and win the girl anyways, or successfully get Slided and feel fucked up about it. Never mind that... More importantly, towards the end of my mid-20s, a technology far greater and more diabolical than Sliding Tackle, From Behind was invented... It was known as...

Sniping is god. It is a long range attack that doesn't require you to get yourself dirty, doesn't require you to travel, all you need is your camp spot, your gun (a 3G Smartphone would usually suffice) and you can start sniping. Unlike Sliding Tackling, where the direction is predictable, Sniping has virtually no blind spots and can be initiated from ANYWHERE.

Weezer - Crab

And The Let Me Down You Left Me, Lets You Down.

The candy-coated fluorescent man, dressed in a red robe and top hair, a mustache from the tip, to the shine, marching on with the mouses, mouses is what you find at home, rats are what you find outside.

They named an ice cream after a natural disaster. Is it to imply, people die for sweets? I must not be human then. I think of sweets as a nutrient, to help my brain think faster in dire moments.

There's just no simple way to hide from the sun. When we said we would stop, and take a load off, our backs against the wall, full of concrete, such a loving feeling, we could almost taste it.

Outside, the musicians play, an unfamiliar song, of intricate melodies and industrial drum beats. I can't find my way, the song seems to be leading me somewhere, a mystery, a house, get ready set to burn.

Stranger than love, this, your absolute ridiculous demands for behaviour that is beyond that of even the purest of beings. Like asking of a whore, to stain her panties white. The audacity to even suggest, you're crazy.

And what came to pass, came to end. The books binding, left to right, holding their own, holding their time. Sweet salvation surely must suffice, divides, merely a term in mathematics. I wish to never see you again.

It gets sweeter if you try. It gets simpler if you keep the doors opened. If you hear a rumour, squash it, know that I never said such things, know that I never ran, faster than time could keep.

Intentions reaching a fever pitch. Nobody's perfect. Intentions reaching a fever pitch. Nobody's perfect. Intentions reaching a fever pitch. Nobody's perfect. Intentions reaching a fever pitch. Nobody's perfect.

I don't think "Faith" and "Trust" are the same things. I don't sit with the people who sit on fences. Why don't we sleep at night? I said, why don't we sleep at night like bats like stars like dark grey skies.

Vise Vords from the Vice Capt. - Eleventh Hour

Back in my waitering days, I was very close to a certain manager of mine, her name was Marlene.

We struck up a great working relationship as well as friendship and we would often share snacks and goodies behind the kitchen doors. Sometimes, she would order desserts and ask me to share it with her.

You see, Marlene was a dedicated worker. When she ordered her desserts, they often laid still in the kitchen while she worked away at the store front. The ice cream would melt and I would have to go out and get her to finish her food before they were all gone. I would say to her,

"Marlene, come in and finish your food. Dessert cold already not nice."

The Vice Capt.'s Top 10 Anime/Manga Girls

1. Ayanami Rei (Evangelion)

- Evangelion is always the first. Single most important/influential media in my life. Love the works of Yoshiyuki Sadamoto for EVA and all subsequent designs for series like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars.

2. Senjougahara Hitagi (Bakemonogatari)

- My favourite Anime girl type; the Tsundere. Perhaps the most attractive thing about Senjougahara is the fact that she's always honest about her feelings and openly displays them (To the lead character, Araragi Koyomi).

3. Suzumiya Haruhi (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu)

- What's not to love about Haruhi, voiced by the ever talented Hirano Aya. I once called this the second best Anime next to Evangelion. I even love the "Endless Eight" Arc.

4. Makise Kurisu (Steins; Gate)

- Nothing but love for Steins; Gate. Time-traveling shows gets me all the time. Makise Kurisu holds the record for most expensive Nendoroid purchased in my collection, paying good money for her "White Coat" version when it was released.

5. Yoko Littner (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)

- An overall great character design: red hair, chopsticks, muffler, studded belt and stockings... I admit to purchasing the Nendoroid first with no prior knowledge to what Gurren Lagann is about.

6.  Bulma (Dragon Ball)

- What I love most about Bulma is her voice, played by Hiromi Tsuru... And also the fact that she's the wife of Vegeta.

7. Higurashi Kagome (Inuyasha)

- The heroine from Inuyasha. Like how she's dogging over Inuyasha for most parts of the show (Pun intended).

8. Chihaya Ayase (Chihayafuru)

- A new found love and favourite.

9. Nico Robin (One Piece)

- Robin's backstory that lead to the "CP9" Arc was one of the best in One Piece. Furthermore, Robin is always the most fashionable amongst the Strawhats, especially during Thriller Bark.

10. Mari Illustrious Makinami (Evangelion)

- Being an EVA Purist, I was quite skeptical when they announced the movie remakes and even a proposed new character and a different ending. I must say, my balls did drop to the floor at the end of the second EVA movie, Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. Am eagerly awaiting the next one like a Father awaits the birth of his child.

Senna (Bleach: Memories of Nobody), Kosaka Kirino (Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai), Yamada (B Gata H Kei), Morimi Saki (Higashi no Eden), Izumi Konata (Lucky☆Star), Kumashiro Maya (Occult Academy), Aisaka Taiga (Toradora!), Takada Kiyomi (Death Note), Tomoe Mami (Puella Magi Madoka Magica), Kuronuma Sawako (Kimi ni Todoke), Panty & Stocking (Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt), Zange-chan (Kannagi), Azuki Miho (Bakuman), Tendo Akane (Ranma 1/2), Sheryl Nome (Marcross Frontier), Perona (One Piece) , Princess of the Crystal (Mawaru Penguindrum), Yuzuriha Inori (Guilty Crown)

Apart from "1", all rankings are in no particular order. Actually, amongst the 10 girls that I picked, all of them have a common theme or appearance or accessory or trait, no? Spot it!

Vise Vords from the Vice Capt. - Tenth Amendment

I have this belief, or make believe, that everybody isn't with, who they were meant to be with. Because at some point in life, we threw away, gave up on, rejected this one person we were designed to be with, as chosen by God. That reckless abandon had left us with a tinge of regret and remorse, some are brave enough to bury, others live with it, for the rest of their lives. Everybody who's out on the street walking arm in arm, probably wanted to hold on to someone, something else. The sound of settling, two hearts kept, one half full, the other half empty.

What's so new about the year anyway.

Taken way back at AFA X. Ironically, we might not be back... While the picture was trying to suggest otherwise.

The good bits of 2011 was discovering the gym and working out 3 to 4 times a week. It taught me about nutrition and exercise and gave me a goal to reach daily, weekly and monthly. It took my mind off the unpleasant taste of being alive and made me so exhausted every day, I basically did nothing but eat, work out, sleep, eat. Numb enough to forget unhappy thoughts, little by little.

The SCANDAL weekend probably was the best days of 2011. Autograph session, gig and after-show handshake got me smiling from ear to ear like a monkey, earnestly. Unforgettable.

I took more and more time away from playing Street Fighter because quite simply put, I wasn't enjoying myself anymore. At times, it felt more like an obligation, than a game... Yet at times, it felt like a game, in every aspect of the word.

With this newfound space, I started meeting up with old friends and seeing them regularly again, a feeling I had missed. These are friends I've known from when we were kids (mentally or physically, it works the same in this sentence.) and you don't realise how fast time is moving... Suddenly, we are adults.

And last of all,

"This love of ours is the only constant!"

Everything else, was a mess.

So in 2012, we're looking forward to a brand new episode of Food Xialan, which we will begin shooting... Soon enough. Osaka is a God amongst Chefs I must add, maybe I'll steal his secrets and share it with the world... Claim all the credit along the way.

We'll still be telling it like it is, keeping it real and having fub, Dudes.

I'll have more t-shirts in the merchandise section, increasing my KPI to three new designs a year. Look out for that.

TXL aside and more of a personal note, I've got some gigs lined up really early in the year that I'm looking forward to. Dashboard Confessional in February, toe at Mosaic (It's my return to Mosaic! After sitting out the past few ones!) and Death Cab For Cutie in March. Apart from alcohol and drugs, music is the next best thing you can truly get a high to.

Reservist on my birthday, great year ahead, don't you think?

With ♥,
Vice Capt.

In other news, Alpacrab and Mr. Alpaca are living free and well since being adopted. Here are some pictures.

It may not look like it, but Alpacrab is actually sleeping.

Mr. Alpaca on the other hand is by the piano playing his favourite song, "Merry Christmas Mr. Alpaca".
